Twelve-year-old Nellie has the ability to use the "flux" and travel between levels of reality. With her enemy-turned-friend Deller, Nellie works to understand the mysteries of her own past and the relationships among the levels. The mechanics of the flux and Nellie's special powers are confusing, but Nellie is a strong character and the involving story's conclusion is satisfying.
