They're "strong," "bold," and "smart," but they're not goody-goody. "Great girls, / Brave girls, / Often misbehave girls. / Fighting. Frighting. / Stay-up-half-the-nighting." In the oil paintings, a multiethnic cast of characters moves across pleasing compositions.
