Iris (How to Hide a Lion) is sad to leave her (VERY large) lion behind when her family leaves town on Christmas Eve. The lion follows Iris and has many adventures, including inadvertently frightening village carolers and meeting Santa on a rooftop. Girl and lion's eventual happy reunion is satisfying but not pat: the lion eats all the Christmas dinner (but...there's always pizza!). The art's deadpan humor is balanced by its warmth and coziness.
