The summer before high school, opera-loving Brooklynite Davis worries about his weight and popularity; he also wonders if maybe he's gay. There are some plots holes, and the writing can be uneven in places, but the book is nevertheless a humorous and heartfelt friendship and family story that's reassuring in its message to readers: change is tough--but normal.
