Mary Middling and Other Silly Folk: Nursery Rhymes and Nonsense Poems

(2) PS Illustrated by Katja Bandlow. Though Fyleman (1877–1957) was best known for poems about fairies, the poems here are, instead, gently silly, appealing as much through sound as through sense. Most concern odd characters, like the pirate who "...always when he went to sea / Drank turtle soup instead of tea." Bandlow matches the tone with vibrantly animated, agreeably childlike illustrations.
