In addition to his mom marrying the school principal over the summer, eighth-grader Jonah Truman receives an unsigned note in his locker from a girl who wants to go out with him. Or is it one of the guys playing a joke? Although the ending is somewhat predictable, Bechard wittily relates Jonah's adolescent embarrassment, crushes, and dates that include so many other kids they're "kind of like a field trip."
