Thirteen-year-old Meryt-Re doesn't want to marry the man her uncle has chosen for her, but an orphan girl in ancient Egypt doesn't have many choices. And it doesn't help that the villagers--including her best friend--think Meryt has dark powers. Though the characters are generally two-dimensional, the story's mystery aspect will keep readers interested and the extensively researched setting is well realized. Glos.
