This book provides a good historical overview of bounty hunting, which originated in seventeenth-century England and thrived in the American West, and private investigating, with an emphasis on the Pinkerton National Detective Agency. However, present-day information about the professions is superficially related, and a chapter on film and television detectives seems like filler.
