Throughout one day, a young African-American boy hears music everywhere ("When I hear that squirrel sing his chitter-chat song, / I burst out singin'! I just gotta sing along") and offers scatlike responses ("Chitter-chat!"). The verses are only occasionally cutesy, and the sepia-toned images are a reminder that conveying cheerfulness doesn't require a bright palette.
