It's Sam's first snowstorm, and Stella, who's older, is showing him the ropes. As she offers creative answers to Sam's numerous questions, her wild red-orange hair stands out cheerfully against the winter landscape. Sam remains cautious, but finally, in a satisfying ending, he enters into Stella's imaginings about snow angels. In both text and illustrations, Gay endows her characters with distinctive personalities.
