However, when someone called Grandpa visits and approaches the animal's cradle, the dogs have a change of heart: "It's not his new animal.... It's our animal." Jenkins's funny, well-paced sibling rivalry tale sticks solidly to the dogs' point of view, as do Pratt's equally dog-centered illustrations.
