The Coming of Night: A Yoruba Tale from West Africa

(3) K-3 Illustrated by Jenny Stow. This tale tells how night came to be, during the time long ago when it was "forever day." When the daughter of the great river goddess marries an earth chief, she misses night, which only exists in the river. The river goddess sends her daughter the spirits of night in a bag, and with a "whooosh," out come the night animals and the peaceful, cool night. Lively, colorful illustrations extend the story.
