After their parents' deaths in a train accident, cousins Meline and Jocelyn find themselves under the guardianship of their reclusive uncle. The book's savagely dark humor and unique setting (an island haunted by airplane wreckage) allow Horvath to place her characters in increasingly bizarre psychic positions, building to a crescendo in a remarkable examination of the extremes of emotional distress.
