Amedeo and William are helping Amedeo's neighbor Mrs. Zender move into a retirement home. While sorting her possessions, they happen upon a mysterious drawing. The novel attempts to sustain too many subplots and relies on contrivance, but the characterization of Mrs. Zender is Konigsburg at her best.
