Even picky eaters may find the little witch's brattiness too much. There's some humor in Mom's ingredient list ("Eye of newt, toe of sock, heel of boot, salted rock"), but readers' patience may be tested by the text's wordiness. The soft-focus green-tinged illustrations have some flair.
