A brown-skinned girl describes the menu at the "very worst breakfast" to her sister, who doesn't remember the sausages that were "wet as SNOT" or the "slimy red tomato." The spiky illustrations are a suitable match for the vividly gross imagery, though the British author's story, with its tangents and references to foreign foods (vegemite, rumbledethumps, kedgeree) may confuse American readers.
