In his second book, Bieber gives fans a "personal backstage pass to my world": an earnest, disorganized glimpse into the eighteen-year-old's life as a superstar. "Beliebers" will be gratified by the effusive thanks Bieber gives them, but they'll be most interested in the multitude of photos of the artist singing, posing with family and fans, and goofing off like a regular kid.

Contemporary Lives series.
These standard-issue, easy-to-read pop biographies offer details about each star's life and career. Controversial behaviors and incidents, including early failures or bad reviews; drug use by Downey and Eminem; protests against Eminem's perceived homophobia, misogyny, and gun use; Lady Gaga's bisexuality; and Bieber's jealous fans' behavior are covered. Sidebars offer additional context to the unremarkable text. Reading list, timeline. Bib., glos., ind. Review covers these Contemporary Lives titles: Eminem, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, and Robert Downey, Jr.

Pop Culture Bios: Super Singers series.
These middle-grade biographies provide easy-to-read overviews but little new insight on their pop-singer subjects. The icons' childhood roots, roads to stardom, and current career details are all addressed, while sidebars contain extra facts and definitions (demo; screen test). The gushing slang ("fav"; "adorbs") grows tiresome, though some tweens may disagree; the abundant photos will likely be pored over. Reading list, websites. Ind. Review covers these Pop Culture Bios: Super Singers titles: Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Beyoncé, One Direction, Selena Gomez, and Taylor Swift.

Photographs by
Robert Caplin.
With profuse thanks to fans, Bieber somewhat circuitously describes his rise to fame, from happy childhood in Ontario to YouTube popularity to record deal to his (heavily promoted) "My World" tour. The text delivers some clichéd advice, but the sixteen-year-old's humility and goofiness are apparent. Numerous current photos, both staged and candid, are likely to be most enticing to fans.
