Running away from her best friend's betrayal, Beth discovers a London underworld populated by creatures of wire, electricity, metal, and cement; falls for its young prince; and joins his fight to stop the encroaching god of urban decay. While some conceptual underpinnings in the world-building are unclear, the strong, complex female friendship and Neil Gaiman–esque down-the-rabbit-hole plot are compensations.
