Three Thieves series.
The sixth installment of this graphic-novel series finds Dessa closer to finding her lost twin, Jared. Dessa goes to the Dark Island, but instead of Jared she finds three children with mysterious origins. Meanwhile, Jared meets up with Captain Drake and a cliffhanger reveals his true identity. Successful coloring and panel layout help readers identify location, transitions, and character focus.

After The Dark Island ended in tragedy, the seventh book opens with twins Jared and Dessa still searching for each other. Jared is exposed as the rightful king, and Dessa--with the help of friends made along the adventure--fights her way into the castle to reunite with her brother. This riveting conclusion to the well-delineated graphic-novel series will satisfy its longtime readers.

While he and the other men of the King's knights, known as the Dragons, follow clues to find three young thieves, Sir Drake reminisces about the fatal events that led to their present day. Black-and-white art among color signifies the flashback scenes, making the transitions easy to follow. The backstory will be satisfying to fans of this graphic novel series.

In this fifth graphic-novel adventure, Dessa is still on the hunt for her brother, and she and her friends befriend a smuggler who will aid them in finding the Dark Island. Meanwhile, Captain Drake gets his fortune told. A run-in with the Pirate King provides an interesting twist, and a surprising revelation is sure to lure fans back for the next installment.

Dessa and her traveling-sideshow friends continue to search for her twin brother while outrunning the Queen's Dragons, here rescuing a kidnapped prince in the process. While love looms, there's still plenty of treachery and action in this fantasy-adventure graphic novel. The characters could be better developed in this installment, and, hopefully, story arcs start connecting in the next; regardless, fans will be pleased.

Three Thieves series.
The second volume in this graphic novel fantasy series jumps right into the action, following the three main characters as they hide from their pursuers at the Black Rock Inn. The characters are rather flat, but the well-drawn illustrations provide a clear setting and add drama. Fans of the first book will be pleased and will look forward to more.

Orphaned acrobat Dessa hopes to find her long-lost twin brother when her traveling sideshow arrives at the royal city. After raiding the treasury with friends Topper and Fisk and narrowly escaping, the trio sets out on an adventure. This well-paced graphic novel with varied cartoon-panel illustrations is an engaging series opener.
