Hinds (The Odyssey) offers another ambitious and compelling comics adaptation of a Homerian epic. In the tenth year of the Trojan War, Greek leaders Achilles and King Agamemnon seek to conquer Troy while Zeus and other gods and goddesses prove to be fickle and meddlesome war agents. Arresting pencil, watercolor, and digital illustrations propel readers, shifting from neat panels during peacetime to angular layouts during physical and emotional strife. Bib.

In their fourth chapter book, the young Olympians' battle against the Titans continues. Here, Zeus et al. search for a new weapon and encounter another Olympian along the way. The lighthearted strife and bickering spice up the characters' journey toward self-discovery. Hyperion maintains the series' humor; comic black-and-white illustrations will appeal to young readers.

In simple, colloquial language ("'Who are you?'...'I'm your mother,' said Rhea. 'Give me a hug.' But...'You missed all my birthdays!' said Zeus"), Karas renders myth into farce, with cartoonlike characters ranging from the appealing boy god to his monstrous dad. Amusing (if at times a bit scary), this is a singularly irreverent take on an ancient creation story.

Olympians series.
After opening with the history of Zeus's ancestors, the tale progresses to the birth of the "king of the gods," his fight with the Titans, and the rise of the Olympians: "ageless and immortal, a new race of gods." This graphic novel treatment brings a modern, colorful, action-packed look to an old tale. Reading list. Bib.
