Brockenbrough's critical biography opens with a sampling of events leading up to the 2016 presidential election. Her cohesive narrative then takes readers through Trump's family history and career, including the first year and a half of his presidency, which provides context for his present-day behavior. It's not a flattering portrait, but it is factually accurate, scrupulously documented, and well-reasoned, with photographs and primary-source documents throughout. Timeline. Bib, ind.

Premier Presidents series.
The cursory presidential biography series continues. The texts, written in short, choppy sentences, provide little in the way of detail or new information, but an age-appropriate layout features a large font, plenty of white space, and several captioned photos or paintings. Trump focuses (by publication-date necessity) on the 2016 campaign and his pre-presidency business ventures. Reading list, timeline. Bib., glos., ind. Review covers these Premier Presidents titles: Donald Trump, James Monroe, Dwight D. Eisenhower, George H. W. Bush, Andrew Jackson, Grover Cleveland, James Carter, and Woodrow Wilson.

Pebble Plus series.
This slim volume blandly presents straightforward information about the life and election of the forty-fifth president. Level-appropriate text, photographs (many seem like odd choices), and an accumulative timeline trace Trump's path to the presidency. Notably absent from this biography is any information about the contentious election or controversies in office. A further reading list highlights books about the presidency in general. Glos., ind.

Gateway Biographies series.
The lives of two well-known (and somewhat notorious) public figures are outlined in these no-frills, cursory introductions. Prince's profile follows his evolving musical career and daring artistic identity up to his unexpected death. Trump's focuses more narrowly on a few business, entertainment, and political successes preceding his presidency; while providing accurate background information, this book is already outdated. Reading list, timeline, websites. Bib., ind. Review covers these Gateway Biographies titles: Prince and Donald Trump.

Illustrated by
Marc Rosenthal.
Black and Rosenthal spoof the then–presidential candidate in this introduction to a cartoonishly vain creature called "the Trump." Black's rhymes are observant and funny, if clearly adult-aimed ("Here's where a Trump will go on at some length / On the size of its manhood and physical strength"); Rosenthal manages quite a likeness with his faceless (except for a big, roaring mouth) orange blob.

Cowan chronicles the life of MacMillan from his boyhood in New England to his last Arctic voyage in the 1950s. MacMillan's major expeditions and scientific studies are vividly described. The author's use of her subject's journals, letters, and books adds detail and authenticity. MacMillan's own photographs enhance this well-documented, sophisticated text. Websites. Bib., ind.

People to Know Today series.
Opening with a highlight or turning point in the subjects' lives (rough-and-tumble George's first experience being moved by music, "The Donald"'s first season of The Apprentice), these biographies then go back to provide information about childhood, early accomplishments, and successes in later life. Sidebars and stock photographs enhance these adequate but unexciting introductions to well-known personalities. Reading list, timeline, websites. Ind. Review covers these People to Know Today titles: George Gershwin and Donald Trump.
