Fox Louis and his family move into a new house. The first night there, Louis discovers a frightened green monster under his bed. The story can be read as though the monster is real or imaginary (i.e., a product of Louis's anxiety about making new friends). Cheery watercolors give character to the fraidy-cat monster and the brave little-boy fox.
