Flats, a cool canine who plays the guitar, and his buddy Caleb run away from their junkyard home when their owner tries to turn them into fighting dogs. Moving to Memphis, then New York City, Flats makes a name for himself playing the blues. The overly long tale is related in a colorful narrative voice; the illustrations contain some maudlin details. Lyrics and score for "The New York City Blues" are included.
