The terse but poetic first-person text is fictional, written in the voice of a nine-year-old girl from a multiracial family. Color photos of widely varied NYC scenes, purportedly taken by the girl, were actually shot by the author and some friends, many using smartphones. Vaswani's unique picture book should encourage children to document their own world and stories and to look at their environment with fresh eyes.
